I’ve been working on a personal project for a while now called MediaHub, which I originally shared here during the early Alpha builds.
Since then the project has grown quite a bit, and the main Android TV version has now reached MediaHub 1.0.0-RC1, officially moving the project out of Beta and into the final Release Candidate stage before 1.0.
MediaHub also includes Windows and macOS Desktop versions, along with the self-hosted MediaHub Management Panel, which has now also moved out of Alpha and reached 1.0.0-RC1.
The original idea is still very simple. I use IPTV alongside my own personal media server, and I wanted one application where I could access everything without constantly switching between separate apps.
MediaHub brings together IPTV through the Xtream Codes API, alongside Jellyfin, Emby and Plex, within one interface.
What MediaHub Does
The main interface provides access to:- Live TV
- Movies
- Series
- TV Guide / EPG
- Media Server Libraries
- Collections
- Continue Watching
- Recently Added
- Search
- Favourites
- Profiles
- Football Guides
Live TV includes preview, fullscreen playback, favourites, Recent Channels, previous channel, quick-channel browsing, programme information and search across the complete channel catalogue.
MediaHub also includes Live TV pause/rewind through timeshift and MultiView, allowing two Live TV channels to be watched together.
Movies and Series are available through both IPTV and connected media servers, with watched status, resume positions and playback progress where supported.
Jellyfin, Emby & Plex
MediaHub connects directly to Jellyfin, Emby or Plex, allowing personal media libraries to sit alongside IPTV content in the same application. This includes Movies, TV Shows, seasons, episodes, libraries, collections, Continue Watching, Recently Added and Next Up, with playlists also supported where available.
Playback includes resume positions, watched status and audio/subtitle selection.
Plex uses its normal link-code authentication, while Jellyfin and Emby can be added either using the TV remote or through MediaHub’s newer QR-assisted account setup.
Playback
Playback has continued to be one of the biggest areas of development throughout the project.MediaHub includes:
- Play / Pause and configurable seeking
- Audio and subtitle selection
- Fit / Zoom / Stretch modes
- Playback information
- Resume support
- Automatic next episode playback
- Playback retry/compatibility handling
- Up Next overlay
- Next Episode and Cancel controls
- Live TV timeshift
- MultiView
A lot of the work leading into 1.0 has also focused on background behaviour, Android audio focus, player lifecycle and making sure playback behaves properly when MediaHub is sent to the background and later resumed.
Profiles & Personalisation
MediaHub now includes optional local Profiles, with support for up to eight profiles through a TV-friendly Who’s Watching? screen.Profiles can use built-in MediaHub/media-themed avatars or your own local profile images.
IPTV, Jellyfin, Emby and Plex accounts remain connected to the device rather than needing separate credentials for each profile.
MediaHub also includes a wider personalisation system with:
- Multiple themes
- Standard and Compact display density
- Customisable startup screen
- Category management
- Improved loading/error states
- Consistent D-pad focus styling
Football Guides
MediaHub also includes a dedicated Football section.Fixtures can be browsed by competition and MediaHub can then search your existing IPTV provider for channels likely to be showing the match.
The system checks local channel names and cached EPG information first, prioritising sports/event categories and recognised broadcasters before making additional provider requests.
Results appear progressively as they are found.
There is also an optional Find More Channels / Deep Search mode if a wider EPG scan is needed.
The idea is to make finding temporary match/event channels much easier without forcing people with very large IPTV providers to wait several minutes every time they open a fixture.
As always, the quality of the results depends heavily on the channel names and EPG information supplied by the IPTV provider.
MediaHub 1.0.0-RC1
The main Android TV version has now moved out of Beta and reached 1.0.0-RC1.The feature set is now effectively frozen while the Release Candidate receives wider testing before the final 1.0 release.
A lot of the recent work has therefore been focused less on adding features and more on:
- Performance
- Stability
- Playback reliability
- Large IPTV provider support
- D-pad navigation
- Focus handling
- Interface consistency
- Android Home/resume behaviour
- Loading behaviour
- Memory/player cleanup
Windows & macOS Desktop
MediaHub also has Desktop versions for Windows and macOS.They follow the same overall MediaHub design and concept but are adapted for mouse, keyboard and desktop displays rather than simply copying the TV interface.
The Desktop builds include:
- IPTV
- Jellyfin, Emby and Plex
- Live TV, Movies and Series
- TV Guide / EPG
- Search and Favourites
- Resume / watched state
- Fullscreen playback
- Audio/subtitle controls
- Next Episode / Up Next
- Native desktop installers
The macOS version is earlier in development and is something I intend to continue revisiting as the wider project develops.
MediaHub Management
MediaHub Management has now also reached 1.0.0-RC1.It is a self-hosted web management platform which can generate and manage customised MediaHub Android applications.
You don’t need to download the MediaHub source code, use Android Studio or manually edit the application.
You install the Management Panel on your own server, configure your deployment through the browser and then generate your application.
The panel can manage things such as:
- Custom app name, icon, TV banner and branding
- Hidden/dynamic Xtream provider addresses
- Multiple managed IPTV providers
- Feature availability and restrictions
- Managed OpenVPN profiles
- Managed Jellyfin and Emby server addresses
- Android signing
- Generation of your own signed MediaHub APK
Each installation maintains its own Android signing identity, so generated applications and future updates remain under the control of whoever operates that Management deployment.
The panel acts as the configuration/control layer only. IPTV credentials, Media Server credentials and media streams do not pass through the Management Panel.
Docker, Docker/Plesk and native Ubuntu 24.04 deployment options are available.
Full installation and usage instructions can be found in the Documentation section:

Where MediaHub Goes Next
The immediate goal for Android TV / Google TV is now straightforward:Get 1.0.0-RC1 tested and move towards the full MediaHub 1.0.0 release.
Windows development will continue alongside this, with the aim of bringing it closer to the Android feature set while keeping it properly adapted for desktop use.
I’m also continuing to explore other platforms, including Amazon’s newer VegaOS / Fire TV platform and, longer term, Apple TV/iPadOS.
None of these are overnight promises. I’m still developing MediaHub myself, so I’d rather get each version working properly than rush out unfinished ports.
About the Project
MediaHub is still very much a personal learning project.I’m not a professional software developer — my background is in IT infrastructure — so a lot of this has involved learning Kotlin, Compose, desktop development, media playback, deployment, Docker and the various media APIs as I’ve gone along.
I’ve mainly tested Android on an NVIDIA Shield, along with additional Google TV hardware, so feedback from different Android TV / Google TV devices is always useful.
The same applies to different IPTV providers, Jellyfin/Emby/Plex environments and Management installations, where real-world testing regularly uncovers things I wouldn’t necessarily see myself.
Please don’t post IPTV usernames, passwords, provider URLs or Media Server tokens publicly when reporting issues.

Thanks again to everyone who has tested MediaHub, reported bugs or suggested improvements.
A lot has changed since the original Alpha builds, and a large number of the improvements have come directly from people actually using the app.
MediaHub Android TV and MediaHub Management have now reached 1.0.0-RC1, with the full 1.0 release now the next major milestone. 🎉
