do you set theses as direct or just do you just place on server as not on demand if you want them live ?

Tbh, your question is a little vague and sound like talking about VOD but not sure, so I'll cover both.
1) If it's VOD, you are better to download them locally and then to stream them in the VOD section yourself.
2) If it's a live-stream, you should be setting them to live, but NOT DIRECT. Direct will redirect your views to the original source, INCLUDING YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD. This should never be done! You should always restream them, not direct link them.
